    Course Overview

    This is the first course in a four part series that will provide students with the knowledge to support the various features of Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0. Participants will gain an understanding of the product's architecture and perform the procedures to install, configure, and implement Internet Information Server.

    Objectives

    Unit 1: Introducing IIS 4.0 1 - 2 hours

    - Match the components of IIS 4.0 with the type of support they provide to clients.
    - Match the HTTP 1.1 features of IIS 4.0 with the tasks that they enable on the server.
    - Match the services that enable an integrated setup and administrations of IIS 4.0 with their features.
    - Identify the features that support development and deployment of the Web-based applications of IIS 4.0.
    - Identify the features that enable the administrators to ensure security and authentication of users on IIS 4.0.
    - Identify the features that enable the incorporation of Web Publishing Tools on IIS 4.0.
    - Identify the IIS 4.0 functionality provided when it is installed on a Windows interface.

    Unit 2: Installing IIS 4.0 1 - 2 hours

    - Identify the recommended hardware and software requirements for installation of IIS 4.0.
    - Identify the Windows NT Server 4.0 configuration features that are essential for IIS 4.0 installation.
    - Verify the Windows NT server baseline settings.
    - Install IIS 4.0 on a Windows NT 4.0 server by using the custom installation option.
    - Identify the changes to a Windows NT server after the installation of IIS 4.0.
    - Verify the changes made to the Windows NT server after the installation of IIS 4.0.

    Unit 3: Managing IIS 4.0 1 hour

    - Identify the benefits of MMC.
    - Match the components of the MMC interface with their functions.
    - Save a customized console file by using MMC.
    - Restore a customized console file when MMC is not running.

    - Match the protocols supported by IIS 4.0 with their functions.
    - Match the components of administration architecture with their functions.
    - Match the shared facilities of the Inetinfo process with their functions.
    - Match the connectors supported by IIS with their functions.
    - Identify the functions of the components of the Windows NT system services layer.
    - Match the components of the Web services layer with their functions.
    - Match the components of the Application services layer with their functions.

    Unit 5: Configuring WWW Service 1 hour

    - Identify the tasks enabled by the types of WWW property sheets located on IIS 4.0.
    - Configure the WWW service Master properties property sheet on IIS 4.0.
    - Configure the options provided by the WWW Web site tab.
    - Add users to the Operators list provided by the WWW Operators tab.
    - Configure the options provided by the WWW Performance tab.
    - Add an ISAPI filter on IIS 4.0.
    - Configure the options provided by the WWW Home Directory tab.
    - Configure the WWW Default property sheet to enable a browser to locate a default document.
    - Configure the security options in the WWW Directory Security tab.
    - Match the options in the HTTP Headers tab with their uses.
    - Identify the features of the WWW Custom Errors tab.
    - Modify the default Web site properties to make a Web site offline.
    - Test a Web site that is offline for the standard error message.
    - Modify the default Web site properties to make it online.
    - Create a custom error message for a Web site that is currently unavailable.
    - Replace the default error message with a custom error message.
    - Test a Web site for a custom error message.

    Unit 6: Configuring FTP Service 1 hour

    - Identify the tasks enabled by the types of FTP property sheets located on IIS 4.0.
    - Configure the FTP Service Master Properties property sheets on IIS 4.0.
    - Configure the options provided by the FTP site tab.
    - Configure the options provided by the FTP Security Accounts tab.
    - Configure the message fields provided by the FTP Message tab.
    - Modify the options provided in the FTP Home Directory tab.
    - Configure the options provided by the FTP Directory Security tab.
    - Populate the FTP site with text files on IIS 4.0.
    - Transfer files by using the command line FTP client.
    - Configure the FTP port to prevent a users from logging into the FTP site.
    - Test the modified FTP port by using the command line FTP client.
