    This course provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to manage data storage. It also provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary to remotely administer shared folders, monitor event logs, backup and restore data.

    Objectives

    Unit 1: Data Storage: Managing 1 - 2 hours

    - Identify the functions and features of data compression.
    - Compress files and folders.
    - Identify the rules for copying and moving compressed files and folders.
    - Identify the characteristics of disk quotas.
    - Set disk quotas for all users and for individual users.
    - Identify the results of monitoring disk quotas.
    - Identify the features and functions of the Encrypting File system.
    - Encrypt files and folders.
    - Encrypting a folder or a file.
    - Identify the guidelines for copying and moving encrypted files and folders.
    - Identify the features and functions of Disk Fragmenter.
    - Defragment hard disks.
    - Identify solutions to common data storage management problems.

    Unit 2: Remote Administration of Shared Folders 1 - 2 hours

    - Identify the functions of the shared Folders subfolders of the Computer Management tool.
    - Connect to a computer at a remote location.
    - Monitor shares on a remote computer.
    - Share a folder on a remote computer.
    - Modify permissions for a shared folder on a remote computer.
    - Send an administrative message to users connected to a remote computer.
    - Disconnect users from a remote computer.
    - Disconnect users from an open file on a remote computer.

    Unit 3: Event Logs: Monitoring 2 hours

    - Identify the steps involved in monitoring event logs.
    - Identify the basic features and functions of the Security Log and the Security Events.
    - Identify the guidelines for auditing object access events.
    - Identify the guidelines for analyzing security logs.
    - Identify the events that may indicate breaches in security.
    - Identify the features and functions of system and application logs.
    - Identify the various types of system and application events.
    - Identify the features and functions of Event Viewer.
    - Use Event Viewer to search for specific events.
    - Identify options available for limiting the size of event log files.
    - Archive an event log file.

    Unit 4: Data: Backing Up and Restoring 2 hours

    - Identify the planning issues for Windows Backup.
    - Identify the five backup types provided by Windows Backup.
    - Identify the preliminary tasks involved in performing backup.
    - Use the Backup Wizard to back up files.
    - Identify the advanced settings in the Backup Wizard.
    - Identify the guidelines for preparing to restore data.
    - Restore a selection of files and folders using the Restore Wizard.
    - Identify the functions of the advanced settings in the Restore Wizard.
     
    Course Access

    Each student has access to the course for a period of 6 months from the day of enrollment in the course.
