  • Anforderungen
    The Audience for this course includes entry level telecommunications technicians, network operators and non-technical staff who will be required to monitor, operate and maintain high capacity international voice and data networks. Students should be capable of learning technical material but will have very little relevant background in telecommunications. This one-course curriculum is designed to introduce non-technical learners to telecommunications.

    In this course students will learn the basic information that a user, with no background in telecommunications, needs as an introduction to telecommunications technology. Additionally, this course will cover networks, switching, transmission media and data transmission (emphasizing the Internet).

    Unit 1: Telecommunications 1 - 2 hours

    - Identify features of basic switching and transmission.
    - Identify the impact of computer technology on telephony.
    - Identify features of analog signals.
    - Identify features of digital signals.
    - Identify the characteristics of analog and digital information.
    - Identify features of bits and bytes in the digital binary system.
    - Identify the four stages involved in the Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) process.

    Unit 2: Switching 1 - 2 hours

    - Identify key events in the development of switching.
    - Identify features of Stored Program Control (SPC) exchange switching.
    - Identify the six levels of the switching network hierarchy.
    - Identify features of methods for handling increased traffic levels over copper cables in PSTNs.
    - Identify the features of Basic Rate (BRI) and Primary Rate (PRI) ISDN.
    - Identify the standard components of a cellular mobile radio network.
    - Identify the hierarchy levels of a cellular network and the geographical area served by each level.
    - Identify technical features of cellular mobile radio networks.

    Unit 3: Signaling and Transmission 2 hours

    - Identify the key uses of signaling.
    - Identify types of signaling.
    - Identify features of Plesiochronous Digital Hierarchy.
    - Identify the benefits of SDH over PDH.
    - Identify features of Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM).
    - Identify features of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM).
    - Identify modulation techniques.
    - Identify features of network synchronization.
    - Identify the types of transmission media used by a typical telecommunications network.
    - Identify the features of copper cable as a transmission medium.
    - Identify the features of fiber optic cable transmission.
    - Identify the features of radio transmission.

    Unit 4: Internet and Data Transmission 2 hour

    - Identify features of the Internet.
    - Identify the characteristics of intranets and extranets.
    - Identify features of the World Wide Web (Web).
    - Identify the main protocols in the Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) suite.
    - Identify the key functions of an Internet Service Provider (ISP).

    Course Access

    Each student has access to the course for a period of 6 months from the day of enrollment in the course.
