    Course Description

    This is the first course in a 3 part series that prepares learners for the Cisco CCNA ICND exam 640-811 - Interconnecting Cisco Networking Devices. The course shows you how to configure a catalyst switch for basic operations. Topics covered include switching, spanning tree protocol, and access layer switch configuration. This course also describes the features and operation of VLANs, and shows you how to configure and troubleshoot them.

    Unit 1: Switching and Spanning

    - Identify features and functions of Layer 2 switches and bridges.
    - Sequence the steps in managing Layer 2 addresses.
    - Sequence the steps for forwarding and filtering frames.
    - Identify problems associated with a redundant topology.
    - Identify features of Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) operations.
    - Match Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) port states with their features.

    Unit 2: Configuring Catalyst Switches

    - Identify features and functions of a Per VLAN Spanning-Tree (PVST) network.
    - Identify features and functions of VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP).
    - Identify the key aspects of VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP) operation.

    Unit 4: Configuring VLANs

    - Identify guidelines for configuring VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP).
    - Identify guidelines for configuring 802.1Q trunks.
    - Identify Inter-Switch Link (ISL) trunk command options.
    - Identify guidelines for creating VLANs.
    - Identity commands for assigning ports to VLANs.
    - Identify commands to verify VLAN configuration.
    - Identify guidelines for performing adds, moves, and changes to a VLAN.
    - Match VLAN problems with their solutions.

    Course Access

    Each student has access to the course for a period of 6 months from the day of enrollment in the course.
